VESA Extends DisplayPort Ecosystem with Addition of 38 New Member Companies

Consumer Electronics Companies Promote Interoperability of DisplayPort Standard for Future Growth Opportunities …… NEWARK, Calif.–The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA®) announced that it has added 38 new member companies to its roster in the past 14 months. The increase brings the Association’s membership to nearly 180 hardware, software, PC, display and component manufacturers. Driven by the need to improve audio visual experiences in next-generation products and ensure interoperability, companies are turning to VESA for DisplayPort® and its advanced feature set.

Leading companies, including ASUS, Cadence Design Systems, Cisco, Mentor Graphics, Research in Motion, Toshiba, and Wyse Technology are among the new members who have joined VESA to leverage DisplayPort and Embedded DisplayPort (eDP), as well as the Association’s more than 50 other standards addressing display and display interface applications. With products ranging from laptops and ultrabooks, to graphics cards and cables and adaptors, the recent influx of new member organizations represent the significantly expanding breadth of computing devices using DisplayPort.

“VESA has always had a robust membership of top-tier technology companies seeking to maximize display performance, usability, and interoperability,” said Bill Lempesis, executive director at VESA. “Industry firms such as iSuppli have predicted that DisplayPort will be the interface of the future for computing and other high-performance display applications. The tremendous amount of growth in our membership over the last year validates these predictions, and shows a growing interest in the DisplayPort standard for a variety of external and embedded display applications.”

Member companies gain access to all published standards, DisplayPort PlugTests and compliance programs, DisplayPort Logo use and can contribute to future standards development. The primary interest of most new VESA members are the DisplayPort-related standards addressing both embedded and external Display applications. Through the technical collaboration by its many members, VESA has delivered this next-generation digital video interface which continues to further evolve and gain momentum in a range of applications including computer displays, embedded panels, and other high performance display applications.
